Mafuku

"Es sin duda el más fuerte de todos. Solo levantar su martillo ya seria imposible para muchos otros. Su dura piel esta poblada de cicatrices y sus ojos son el reflejo de decenas de batallas. Es el gran Mafuku. El guerrero elefante!" "There is no doubt about he is the strongest one. Just lift his hammer is impossible for another warriors. His skin is crowed of scars and his eyes are the reflection of dozens of battles. He is the great Mafuku. The elefant warrior!"

Composición/Composition

Desde hace tiempo soy gran admirador del trabajo de Fancagne Didier, un gran escultor que tiene una gran productividad y que ha esculpido geniales figuras como estas:
Since long time ago I am a big fan of the miniatures of Fancagne Didier, a great artist that sculpts a lot of figures and some of then are so awesome as this ones:

Me gustaria ambientar a nuestro guerrero en la selva. Para dar mas detalle a la piel, añadiremos tatuajes y pintura de batalla a varias zonas del cuerpo. Buscamos inspiracion en otras ilustraciones que nos ayuden en el pintado:
I want to ambient the scene in the jungle. For give more detail to the skin, we will add some tattoos and body paint in different parts of the body. We search for inspiration in another illustrations for helping us in painting process:

La figura de Mafuku viene en varias piezas (cuerpo, brazos, martillo, colmillos y trompa). La unión es sencilla y apenas hemos tenido que usar un poco de masilla para la trompa y el brazo. La resina apenas tiene rebabas ni burbujas lo cual es de agradecer. Montamos todas las piezas y preparamos la figura para imprimar.
The Mafuku miniature is composed by some pieces (body, arms, hammer, fangs, and trunk). The union of the parts is easy and we only use some green putty for the trunk and arm joins. The resin doesn't have mold lines and any bubble, what is great. We mount all pieces and prepare the miniature for primer.

Para la peana, vamos a hacer una base de piedra sobre la que estara el protagonista. Bajo esta plancha de marmol verde, pondremos restos de vegetacion y algunos elementos decorativos como algun jarron pequeño, un pequeño totem y muchas plantas. Queremos que el protagonista quede bien visible, pero que la base nos transporte a un ambiente de jungla.
For the base, we will build a stone base where the character will be. Under that green marble base, we will add some vegetation rests and some decorative objects like a small vase, al little totem figure and more plants. We want to create a base were the main character is full visible, but the base evoque us to a jungle atmosphere.

Ya tenemos lista la peana y la miniatura para pintar. Imprimamos en negro y damos una luz con blanco, ambos de spray de Citadel. Now we have ready the base and the miniature. We primer both in black and we give them a first light in white using Citadel primer spray.

Pintado de la base / Painting the base

Para la parte inferior aplicamos color base a las hojas y la piedra. Para las hojas damos tonos verdes claros y azulados en la parte superior y tonos morados en la parte inferior:
For the lower part we apply color to the leaves and the stone. The leaves are painted using green light tones and blue tones in the upper part and violet tones in the lower part:

Aplicamos mas tonos verdes a la piedra, las estatuas y aplicamos los perfilados a los bordes de las hojas y de las piedras para dar mas volumen. Añadimos algo mas de hierba que pintamos con tonos similares verdes:
We apply more green tones to the stone, the statues and we apply some outlines to the edges of the leaves and the stones to give them more volumes. We add more grass painting it with similar green tones:

Queremos simular una placa de marmol verde como este:
We want to simulate a plate of green marble like this:

Para simularlo hemos seguido los siguientes pasos:
To simulate it we have follow this steps:

- Dar una capa base de verde Black Forest Green de scale75.
- Aplicamos un punteado con colores mas claros añadiendo algo de color carne aplicandolo con una esponjilla.
- Pintamos distintas lineas de colores mas oscuros a la base (añadimos algo de violeta a la base).
- Pintamos distintas lineas de colores mas claros a la base (añadimos algo de blanco a la base).
- Pintamos lineas mas finas de colores casi blanco.
- Unificamos todo con una veladura de verde.

- Give a layer base using Black Forest Green from scale75.
- We apply dotted using lighter colors adding some flesh colors and applying it using a sponge.
- We paint some dark lines using base colors (adding some violet to the base color).
- We paint some light lines using base colors (adding some white to the base color).
- We paint some thin lines using very light green white.
- We unify all the base with some glazes of green.

Finalmente pintamos de negro el resto de la base y ponemos el nombre: MAFUKU esta aquí!
Finally we apply some black to the rest of the base and put the name: MAFUKU is here!

Pintado de la figura / Painting the miniature

Primeramente daremos una capa base a la piel aunque no sea definitva en cuanto a color, pero para ir fijando un poco los planos de luz sombra e intentando dar ya cierta cenitalidad a la figura (arriba colores mas claros abajo mas oscuros pero a nivel global). Utilizaremos colores de scale del kit de blanco y negro, de metal no metal y de unreal flesh. Añadimos magenta para las sombras y verdes para las luces:
First we paint the base layer of the skin although it is not the final color, but it will help to fix the light and shadows planes and giving the miniature a cenital ilumination (light colors in the top and dark colors in the lower part). We use colors from Scale75 from B&W kit, NMM kit and unreal flesh kit. We add magenta for the shadows and green for the lights:

Usando estos tonos hacemos un pequeño boceto de los planos en la figura, utilizando grises morados en sombra y grises verdosos claros en luz:
Using those tones we make a quick sketch of the skin with the planes, using violet and magenta for the shadows and light green for the lights:

Después de esta primera capa base, preparamos mezclas de colores turquesa, magenta, verde y gris de distintos tonos del kit de blanco y negro de scale75 y damos una segunda capa base dando distintos colores a la piel:
After this first layer, we prepare some mixes of turquiose, magenta and green with some gray from the W&B scale75 kit and we apply a second layer with more color intensity:

Seguidamente pintamos el martillo de piedra. Utilizamos tonos grises añadiendo algo de morado y de verde aplicando una primera capa base:
We continue with the stone hammer. We use gray tones adding some violet and green applying a first base layer:

Aplicamos un lavado de vallejo marron a todo el conjunto para marcar tambien las grietas:
We apply a brown vallejo wash to all the stone to highlight the scratches:

Finalmente perfilamos el conjunto y repasamos cada una de las grietas del martillo. El simbolo del elefante en el martillo se pinto con metalicos de scale75 y se dieron algunas veladuras de morado:
After painting all we outline all the edges and the scratches of the hammer. The elephan symbom was painted using metallic colors from scale75 and some violet for the shadows:

Pintamos los ojos utilizando amarillo de games workshop. Tambien pintamos con deepred de Scale75 algunas pinturas en la cara y las ropas para ver el esquema general de colores de la figura:
We paint the eyes using yellow from games workshop. Also we paint with deep red from scale75 some paints in the face and the clothes to see the overall color schema:

Pintamos los adornos del cuello y de las manos en oro. Para ello realizaremos un metal no metal dorado para hacerlo mas llamativo. Para pintarlo usaremos los colores : blanco, amarillo hielo, amarillo mate, marron naranja, marron rojizo y negro (todos de vallejo). Realizamos un degradado de estos tonos y para terminar perfilamos todo el conjunto:
We paint the golden coins of the necklace and the hands. For this we will paint it as metal non metal gold to highlight it. For this we will use: white, ice yellow, yellow matt, brown orange, redish brown and black (all from vallejo). We did a degree of those colors and we outline all using white and ice yellow to finish:

En este punto me propongo hacer una piel de elefante que simule este tipo:
In this point I want to make an elephan skin like this:

Los tonos en la piel que dimos previamente nos serviran de base, ahora aplicamos tonos grisaceos oscuros (gris aleman) con algo de verde. Para las manchas de la piel utilizamos color carne mezclado con gris y carne clara para las luces maximas. Establecemos las zonas de color que luego iremos resaltando por zonas:
The skin tones that we put before will be used as a base layer, and now we apply some gray tones (german gray) with a little part of green. For the skin spots we use skin tone mixed with gray and light skin tone for the lights. We apply the color in all the miniature and after we will work in each zone separtely:

Pintamos el taparrabos en tonos naranjas usando marron naranja para la base, añadiendo violeta para las sombras, y añadiendo verde gris claro para las luces y algo de blanco para las ultimas luces:
We paint the loincloth in orange tones using orange brown for the base color, adding violet for the shadows, and adding some green gray for lights and some white at the end:

Usando estos tonos de naranja pintamos la ropa:
Using those orange tones we paint the clothes:

Trasferimos la miniatura a la peana con el fin de ver el conjunto y aplicar tonos para unificar todo. Aplicamos tonos verdes en las patas y en las partes inferiores de la ropa para que complemente con los tonos de la peana.
We glue the miniature to the base to see the whole together and apply green tones to unify all. We apply green tones in the feet and in the lower parts of the clothes for complement the tones of the base.

Aplicamos pinturas de guerra en brazos y cara con un verde brillante al que añadimos algo de amarillo fluorescente para darle mas brillo:
We apply war paints in the arms and in the face using a very bright green mixed with some fluor yellow to give it more bright:

Conclusiones / Conclusions

Lo mejor / The best: - El diseño del personaje y la pose es epica! Hero's design and the posture is epic!
- La piel del elefante es muy realista.The elephan skin is very realistic.
- Simular el marmol verde fue muy divertido y quedo mejor de lo que esperaba.Simulate the green marble was very funny and it looks like better than I thought at the beginning.

Lo peor / The worst: - La resina de la miniatura podría ser un poco menos quebradiza.The resin could be less breakable.
- Demasiados detalles de textura en algunos sitios que a veces dificultan la pintura.Too much texture details in some places that make the painting more dificult.
- Los pies eran demasiado redondos en la base asi que tuve que utilizar dremel para alisarlos.The feet were too round in the base so I have to use dremel to flat them.
